Over his career, Christopher has been involved recruiting over 1,000 employees, consisting of Ph.D. and MSc scientists, in the various ventures he has been involved with. At one time, his company was the largest employer of PhD chemists in Canada employing nineteen different nationalities recruited from around the globe working together under one roof! Christopher was always instrumental in helping these employees transition to working in an industrial drug discovery setting. Christopher’s style of management is that of “lead by example”. He is well known for demonstrating a great deal of empathy and patience with his employees while they learn to be active members of his scientific teams.

Christopher’s extensive business background motivated him to become a mentor for innovators, supporting them by providing experiential insight to accelerate their own ventures. Viewed by up-and-coming innovators as genuine, reliable, and trustworthy, he is a well-sought-after mentor, advisor, participant and/or Board Member with such organizations as; Creative Destruction Lab – Rockies, Venture Mentoring Services (VMS), The A100, Rogue Entrepreneurs, Explore Edmonton, Health City, as well as imYEG. Over the years, Christopher has spent literally thousands of hours mentoring and advising rising and upcoming entrepreneurs. During the past year alone, Christopher mentored over 50 innovators in Edmonton and beyond. As a true mentor, Christopher has inspired other business leaders to mentor entrepreneurs in the community. Through co-founding the Innovation Masterminds Edmonton (imYEG) Program, which connects academic innovators to experienced business leaders, Chris has recruited over 50 proven business leaders to serve as mentors from within and from outside of the Edmonton innovation eco-system.

In his book, “One Day You’ll Understand: An Entrepreneur’s Path to Purpose, Audience, and Voice”, Christopher writes about his experience being a mentor, saying that he believes that a “mentor is something that you are, not something that you do.” He also addresses the significance of the title of mentor, saying that “you cannot call yourself a mentor”, but instead “you must be called a mentor by someone else.”
